It is an indispensable part of daily business activities in all aspects of commerce .This is majorly due to its accessibility and general usefulness.

Here are some of the numerous usefulness of email:

HOW IT ALL BEGAN!

Email has been in existence even long before the advent of the internet. Its first example was a program called MAILBOX and this was found on computers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the year 1965. The program entails users leavings messages on the computer for other users to see whenever they log on to such computer. The major limitation to this program was that the people communicating with each other would need to regularly use the same computer

In 1969, The department of defense, USA further developed the MAILBOX by introducing APRANET( Advanced Research Projects Agency Network)-  a network connecting numerous computers across departments in order to ease communication within the organization. The first message was sent from computer to computer on APRANET on October 29th, 1969.

Ray Tomlinson invented and developed electronic mail by creating APRANET’s network email system, enabling instant communication between various computers within the organization. HE came up with the @symbol indicating the destination for a message e.g “ username@name ofcompany” which is how email is being addressed till date. By 1976, 75% of all APRANET traffic became electronic mail. The concept of communication via email from organization to organization and not just limited to within the organization was what led to the advent of Internet itself.

With the advent of the internet, Internet service providers (ISP) started connecting people across the world, and email hosting sites began to pop up. By 1993, electronic mail has been replaced by email and internet use has become wide spread.
